Ok…this is what I want to do…I wanted to start a foundation a few years ago but someone`s ego and greed got in the way…water under the bridge!

With my new book “Transformation-When the Eagle Comes…”, I will re-paint “Transformation” (healing vision, I recieived) and make a limited edition (2,000 prints,$250.00 per print), it will also be the cover of my new book.

From all the proceeds, I will donate all the profits to begin the foundation. And in time will ask my fellow artist (of all forms, all nations) to donate as well for it.

I will ask a publishing company who is honest and trust worthy, to see the good in this project…

The money will go to First Nation, non-status,metis families who normally could not efford to send thier children to recieve a good education, plus to our young people who are on the streets (broken families or no family at all).

I am tired of politics, native and non-native, ego`s and greed…this is for the people! This will take time to organize, set up a board, etc for foundation, networks, elders are welcome, to over see…

Families or students will decide where they want to go for a education. This has been a dream of mine for many years and I feel it is time to give back…for all the great people and experiances I have had over the years threw my art.

I am not rich, money wise but far richer than anyone I know…But mostly to the elders and healers who loved me enough to allow me to heal and move on with my life…as our elders always say “our children are our future…”

My art career has been good to me, more rewarding than I ever dreamt it would or could be!

Thank you to everyone, museums, galleriers, buyers, collectors, friendships…This will need good hearted people, men and women who are committed and spiritually awake.

If any one is interested in joining me on this project, feel free to contact me…

The beauty of life is we can do what ever we really want…to do the right thing. And it happens when we all work together, showing only respect and love, compassion to each other at all times.

Also to show and let our children know we care deeply for them, for thier futures, education, and to be allowed to  fulfill their dreams of a better life and to really take care of our mother, Mother Earth…

Many do not know this information, how I came to Europe…

In early 1998, I met Johannes Galli in Vancouver, British Columbia in a large beautiful mansion where spiritual people worked and stayed, this was my home at the time. We sat and talked for a afternoon and he said to me, he would love to do a theater play on my life and I knew he meant it!

So we co-wrete and co-produce my play and he and his staff/actors developed it…It was first performed early 1998, at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.

I was flown to Germany, later in 1998,where we traveled and performed in Frankfurt, Freiburg, Stuttgart, Munich, Berlin, Heidelberg and finaly in Vienna, Austria!

Thousands came to see it, Z.D.F., one of Germany`s main television station did a documentary, radio, newspapers, I was in culture shock!!!!

They changed for cultural reason`s and my play was called “Tear of the Eagle”, in Europe…this changed my life forever and for the better!

I have worked with the American Army, 2000, 2001, 2002, as a dancer/performer and as a main speaker, as February is native awareness month throughout  all army bases throughout Europe.

What amazed me (culture shock) was how our culture is viewed and respected by most throughout Europe…not feared!  Stereo-type from movies, books back home, we are lazy , drunks, not human, ignorant savages, not to be trusted!

Johannes was a gift to me, thankyou Johannes!

I love Canada but I am happy living here in Germany! This is how I came and this is where I will die…

I am pleased and honoured to tell you, Daryl Davis who interviewed/edited/filmed my documentary “The Awakening Within- One Man`s Inner Journey”, we will do another follow up documentary in the future.

We are looking for a new film producer, very exciting news!

I can really only speak directly about my own journey of awakening…from being taken away from it and learning how to grow back slowly into it. And over the years, listening to many others from all races, hearing what and how they feel and think.

So, as a painter, storyteller, do my best to share their stories of their own spiritual disappointments or fulfillments! We all live in a world of confusion and at times, anger. Wondering why everything that is going on is going on…

In the so-called-civilized western world, our structure that was thought they once had, is no more…Greed seems to have taken over everything in our normal lives. Oil companies, banks, big business, churches, everything seems to have no pure meaning any more.

All we have to do is turn on the T.V. or read a newspaper and all we see and hear is death and destruction…fear this, fear that! Millions are leaving what was once considered, holy…the churches!

But with all the truth finally coming out from all the churches, such as the sexual abuse, physical and mental abuse as well as the greed, it seems that many of our history books have to be re-written, not only in North America but around the world!

Political leaders, rightwing, left wing, center moderates, Liberal, Conservative, Republican, Democrat, capitalist, socialist, who believes any of them? Normal tax payers, paying for their mistakes and greed, like Wall Street, no one of importance will ever see any jail time, which many deserve! The rich are getting richer, while the poor are getting poorer. Wars that have no meaning anymore…

No wonder I see so many people, worried and very concerned about not only their own personal lives, their families but Mother Earth as well. To try to be a good spiritual personal, to live the teachings…to believe in your heart that the creator has a greater purpose for us all! Most of us are only good human beings trying our best to do the right thing, why don’t they?

No wonder so many of us are confused, what do WE believe in? The spiritual journey is hard enough without having to deal with any of that! My elders have taught me many things but one of the best ones that really hit home was; that I am just a human being, making mistakes, like everyone else on my spiritual/healing, journey. No better, no worse than anyone else…but hopefully to learn from my mistakes.

I am humble enough to realize and know, I will make more mistakes before this time, in this journey of life ends and a new one will begin after that! Throughout my spiritual learning journey, the elders have been teaching me “The Rainbow Teachings”.

Where everyone, everything is considered, equal…Where judgment is only for the creator not us humans! Like putting down spiritual ways, color of skin, sexuality, who’s better, man or woman….mankind is mankind!

To respect each other at all times, no matter the differences might be and to realize our differences with only love and respect in our hearts! As a First Nation artist, I have had to stay strong and not let anything, anyone, get in the way of my dreams of being happy…it hasn’t been a easy road but it has been far more rewarding than I thought it would be!

Not to let the greed or egos of others make me give up, my journey of the work that was ahead of me. Not to allow other’s jealousy, turn me into what I once was…an angry, mistrustful native man! I have only to really thank, my elders, men and women who have taken me under their wings…to love me and respect me, teach me, as I healed all that anger that lived inside of me…my past! To hopefully become a better human being and to be humble when I make my mistakes…

Many Europeans get tears in their eyes when I talk about the elders that are in my life, they see and hear the pure love and affection I hold for them…this was lost long ago threw out much of Europe. It is said by our elders, “we all are children of Mother Earth, we all belong here, as one…

For those interested in attempts to recreate Aboriginal storytelling in textualized forms, the multimedia and bilingual English-Cree format of The Drum Calls Softly is an engaging instance. David Bouchard’s and Shelley Willier’s English stanzas precede Steve Wood’s Cree translations on the most left-hand side of each two-page spread, and Jim Poitras’s pictures of Aboriginal people in mostly natural environments overlap the left page as well as being accorded full right-hand sides and four two-page spreads. Thus graphic particulars insist on the importance of visual aspects of the story. The emotive reading of the narrative poetry on the accompanying CD, complete with drumming and singing by Northern Cree, flute music by Bouchard, and sounds of flowing water and crying raven, not only reproduce other aspects of embodied storytelling, but they foster Cree language learning by allowing students to hear the sounds of the Cree words, strangely printed without accents. Over the course of the storytelling, the magic of the round-dance to the heartbeat pulsing of the drum becomes one with the circle of a child’s day from dawn to night and with natural and human lifecycles.

For almost two decades, I have dedicated my career as a artist, public speaker, to try to tell our stories of what really happened to hundreds of thousands a first nation children in the last hundred years threwout north america. Not with anger or negative thoughts or pointing fingers…

What happened in the america`s, has also happened around the world, going back thousands of years threw to today. I am one of those children who were taken from my family and put into the welfare system as all my brothers and sisters were. And this happened the generations before me, as well.

Either we were put into what is called Residential Schools, run by the churches,or put into foster care of that time, into non-native families, inforced by law of our lands. I have to admit at the same time, many non-natives families tried thier best for our children. Within this process, many canadians were unaware or turned a blind eye to what was going on in this time peroid.

Family…was everything to first nation people, especialy the children and under the “Indian Act” in the early 1900`s,this process took place. Destroying the lives and families of many native communites throughout North America.Thousands died, suicide, illness, only lost numbers in memory today and about 40 years or so we have “woken up,from the bad dream”. Where our leadership (elders) said, “No more warriors, children, women/men, elders must die, so ended the plains wars.

We must stand up on our own two feet and heal our own people and families”. This was said by our elders… Threw political reasons of that time,we were divided up into groups,status,non-status and metis. Where the taking of children had no barriers. Many metis families told me how they got away, was by saying they were from Italy or some other nation. Remember everything that I am telling you are stories from the people,I can only talk about what happened to me from my own personal experiance.

The main point is,we all want to know the truth, not only for oursleves, our families, communities but most of all for our country,Canada, that is dear to our hearts! Here I am nearing 60 years of age and live not knowing who all my blood famly are or were,to this day…my own personal family ties are broken.

I have healed alot but still live with this….sence of loss. I love everyone but the family unit is broken for many of us.

Only threw education,documentaries/films,books,etc and political change, will the true healing begin…Most are unaware in our great nation,of the dark secrets, that are slowly coming to the surface. One of those is what is called the “A-list”…we are the only cutlure within Canada, where it is not legal for me and hundreds of thousands to get our papers,to see who and where we came from, where as every other canadian this is a given right! I only hope and pray, that before I leave this world, I get to see them, not only for my own personal reasons but for our children, grandchildren, great grandchildern and for the generations yet to be born.    The churches, especialy the Catholic church (they ran most of the residential schools in Saskatchewan), where sexual abuse, mental abuse and physical and worse…happened.

Remember also this process happened over many generations! Another chapter will is connected to this, the role of the church…the reality and questions they MUST answer for…for decades the natives threwout Canada were screaming, trying to tell our stories,no one would listen to us,in the beginning, not till it started to appear that it happened to non-native(thier own kind)children too,in the east of Canada…

All over the “western world”, people are asking questions and many leaveing the church because of  what has come out and coming out as we speak…sexual abuse and so on…I am not a christian but respect greatly the spiritual belief of the higher spirit and all belief systems. I have read both new and the old testiments and respect christanty,as is…God is Love, God is compassion, God is understanding, God is forgiveness, God is non-judgemental, thats what I understood of the teachings!

But not greed, power, lies to the people are no longer tolerated. We all have memories and remember that not so far in very recent history and most all the time in the far past;  “God is on my side,to make war, on others, he is on our side…!!”

When I was little and a young man…some,I saw live this way, trying to be good human beings but far too many did not do as they said…! Just turn on your T.V. or read a newspaper, computors and see how corrupted, many our leaders, big banks, big business really are doing? Not all but far too many!  The sex abuse scandle within the church not only the Catholic church is growing threwout here in Europe, sad, but true…

Do they not realize we(children of Mother Earth)are all not ignorant or stupid…? The “Golden Times” are here now, where native and non-natives are already beginning the healing process but so much more work has yet to be done.I love Canada…we all have to put away our personal differences and our leader ship on both sides…have to do the right thing. This will take many more decades to do,we all know it.

There are millions of beautifull people living on Turtle Island of all nations. We are all asking the  same questions…Greed, power, ego, does not work in this day and age,no one can hide from truth… Look at the oil spill in the Mexcian Gulf, tar sands in Alberta…big money business/banks…billions/trillions of dollars lost…where, did it go? It is there for all to see.I am not a politican but I am politicaly aware…we all are…We natives have always known…it was always about the land, what was on top of it and underneath the ground…

    The time  for change,is now…

One chapter in “Transformation-When the Eagle comes…”will be called “Wannabees”…No matter where I go and work, there are always, the “Wannabees”…” This is a problem not only within our own culture, but all around the world…Again, threw traveling/talking/listening,to thousands of people, for two decades, hearing thier thoughts, etc,a book will come. The views of many but the reality,we all live with…

Many of the european cultures say in public;”I am/want to be a shaman”(reincarnated First Nation),”I am/want to be spiritual”,or” I am/want to be the most improtant person” and “I am/want to be the center of attention”! And many use our ways, such as the sweatlodges, pipes, dance and play indian for a day or the weekend!…but really, are too afraid to do the hard work it  really takes!…The spiritual journey is a life long journey. You can not call yourself a elder or shaman, medicine man/woman,just because you want it!Especialy within First Nation culture…the spiritual elders(men and women)…DECIDE!  ”Respect is not given to you,you have to earn it”,it is told… And after living in Europe for over a decade,I see and know people who have worked or have been invited gone to our cereimonies, come back to Europe and talk as if they know more than we do…?

Our elders and people on Turtle Island are getting tired of this, like the Guru in the states where people died in his sweatlodge!  I meet people everywhere I go and some are really serious and trying to find their way, to heal and understand different types of spiritual beliefs, thats ok but, one must respect our ways.

I met a man in Germany who called himself a native shaman and was a German…

I met a man who said he was connect to the land etc and made drums. He even tired to tell me the “Hollywood beat” was our drum beat! He wanted to see our spiritual ways but when realized how hard it is and how committed you have to be…stopped!

I met another man in Finland who calls himself a shaman and he knew notling, even spoke to me rude. Now this may sound like I am angry…no…only hurt, that human beings can do so much harm to our culture and other people and not even get it!  OR talk as we are friends when we are not, I would never do such things, to advance my own career, never!

What about the thousands I have met over the years who are real, gentle, good spirited people? Most,I have met threwout Europe, are good people, looking for spiritual freedom, healing. Many ask me questions about our culture, what I say to them is;”Out of all the difficult personal siduations such as,family, healing, health, spiritual belief`s,death, greed, ego, letting go of thier past…the hardest thing is…to be truely really honest with yourself”! It was for me when I was on my own healing learning  journey.I pray to the creator, everyday and ask for support and spiritual guidence…

These are the one`s I fear for the most and there are many really good healers I have met from all nations, all colors, all spiritual ways. What we have to put up with, jealousy, greed, ego…

This will be a chapter for us all…

“Storyteller – The Art of Jim Poitras”

It is amazing how things happen in life, I have the honour to write a book, it will be an  art biography book!

The title will be “Storyteller – The Art of Jim Poitras”. This book tells about my art career and my life as a First Nation artist, both in Canada and threw out Europe.

My  work hangs in many museums around the world. I also work as a intercultural teacher, telling my story and the stories of native people of North America. As well as a goodwill ambassador, through my art/storytelling, drummer/singer, flute as well as a writer/poet.

I want to dedicate the book to our young native people and to those have already committed suicide, in thier memories…To show them that there are loving, caring, elders, older people who really care about them.Mostly,I hope this will inspire our young native people to “believe in thier dreams” and realize that only threw commitment and hard work, they can achieve  what ever they want to do in life…they are our future!
